I have recently just completed an NFQ Level 8 Certificate course in Video Game Design in the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT). While there i was introduced to the process & procedures of how to develop & create video games from firstly thinking of initial ideas & enhancing my drawing skills to sketching out concepts to help generate these ideas. These sketches would then be used with 3DS Max to model characters & game assets, objects & would then be finally imported to the UDK game engine for use in creating a game level prototype. Also while working on other assignments & projects i was introduced to Construct 2 to create 2D game level prototypes that allows for exporting of games to known mobile formats & HTML 5...
Work experience
I spent a few months working as a graphic design intern in this dundalk based company. While there i spent my time working on creating brochures & catalogues for different companies & also helped update some of the college & course prospectus catalogues for DKIT. I gained some valuable experience in learning programs such as Quark Express & Adobe Indesign while also being able to further develop on my current skills using Photoshop & Illustrator. I was also introduced to creating blogs & websites using wordpress which eventually lead me to creating my own games blog site excitedaboutgaming.wordpress.com were i occasionally write reviews for video games. I gained some good feedback from this & it has lead me to write a few reviews for other gaming sites over the last few months....

I have spent time working for a few months on & off at National Pen over the last 5 years as a graphics artist. My main job role was to work within the graphics department & collaborate with sales reps who would require specific types of artwork to be created & replicated for various customers. I gained a vast knowledge of using Photoshop & mainly Illustrator to create vectorised style graphics that would be placed on product templates that would be sent to the customer for approval...

While attending the Multimedia Production course i gained my basic knowledge of using graphic design programs such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver & was introduced to the concepts of using both Flash & Illustrator & Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing. For most of the main projects i completed on this course i was able to create various types of graphics & assets that would eventually be used for creating short animation videos using Flash....
Spent the last year attending this 1 year course in Video Games Design & was introduced to the concepts of game creation from initial ideas to final concepts & designs, to drawing & sketching ideas to begin work on modelling a character using 3DS Max & mapping, texturing & adding a biped skeletal bone system for animation purposes to be imported into the Unreal Game Engine (UDK). For most of the projects that were completed on the course they ranged from 2D to 3D game prototypes & also gained some brief knowledge of using Inform 7, a program used for creating & scripting text based adventure games...
